We are finishing our 16th Year!
Holiday season is upon us! Christmas today and a New Year around the
Corner. Let's get serious about our Nutrition, Exercise and Skin care

the best year yet!!

Christian: Reflections on " Chasing Two Rabbits and Semi-Retiring" |

As many of you know as of 30 November I terminated my 35
year 24/7 Contract with the Methodist
Hospital Heart Transplant Team,
having served as the primary Heart Procurement Surgeon on about 500
transplants. Doing so effectively ends a 35 year Career as a
Cardiothoracic Surgeon in Private Practice in San Antonio. If I include
my USAF Wilford Hall Surgical Internship (1yr), General Surgery
Residency (4yr) and Thoracic Surgery Residency (2yr) +5 years as a Staff
Surgeon and Chairman of Thoracic surgery, it adds up to 47yrs since
graduation from the University of Alabama in Birmingham Medical School.
We created Inside Outside in 2004, so for the past 16 years I feel like
I have been living the
 old
adage "if you chase two rabbits, you will not catch either one".
In the past year the Procurement Runs have been to more distant
locations than in previous years, taking often 6-10 hours leave,
harvest and come back. These trips were beginning to have an
effect on my attention to everything we do here at Inside Outside
and were quite tiring as many were in the middle of the night.
Although I performed many routine Heart and Lung Operations from
1980-2004, no doubt the "Highlight " of my surgical career would be
my participation on the Heart Transplant Team. Lot's of great
memories and I'm sure we helped many live more comfortable lives. I'm
happy that I have Inside Outside as my only rabbit to chase!! I'm
looking forward to helping all of you take your Health, Strength and
Appearance to a New Level in 2020 and doing it for another 10 years,
so I have simplified and refocused. Semi-Retired.....

Strength Training, Omega 3 Fatty Acids and Low Carb/Fasting
and Sleep The Health Triad! |

At Inside Outside we have always promoted Evidence Based
Strategies. There is no question that our emphasis on safe Hi-Lo
Strength Training is right on point and avoids the loss of strength and
lean mass as we age. Our recommendations of Adequate High Quality
Protein and LoCarb eating are being expanded with various Fasting
Strategies which may have anti-aging benefits. Several studies
finished this year, the REDUCE-IT Study and EVAPORATE Study evaluated
the Omega 3 EPA in a purified form and documented lowering of
Triglycerides, a decrease in Cardiovascular Risk and slowing of
Progression of Atherosclerotic lesions. Many of these benefits may
be related to an anti-inflammatory effect of the Omega 3's. Based
on these studies the FDA has expanded the indications for prescribing
VASCEPA, the purified EPA made by Amarin. Much of this has been
predicted by Dr. Barry Sears who was one of the first to promote
adequate, not placebo, does of Omega 3's. Also, on the Omega 3 front
there was a nice review about the role of Omega 3's in helping with the
Sarcopenia, or loss of muscle as we age. And there is no lack of
data coming out almost daily about the importance of Sleep.

Inside Outside Staff Member Elydia Miles R.N. graduates from UT Health Nursing School! |

I and all of our Inside Outside clients are proud of long
time Inside Outside Staff Member Elydia Miles R.N.! She graduated
this Summer from an Accelerated Nursing Program at UT Health. During her
2 year program she was on the Dean's list while working as a
administrative assistant at University Hospital, caring for her child
and being a wife! That's multi-tasking! Ely is being pinned
by her Mother JoAnn and Linda Ybarbo. After passing her Nursing
License Exam, Ely was offered a Nursing Residency program at Methodist
Specialty and Transplant Program! We are pleased to have Ely join
our honored profession of service and compassion!

Member Spotlight: Norine Torres, Retired Nuclear Radiology Technician |

We salute Norine
Torres in our Member Spotlight this Month! Norine has been a member
of the Inside Outside Family since 2005 and enjoys her once a week Hi-Lo Workout and Spa Services.
Norine is a San Antonio native and
trained at the Scott and White Clinic in Temple, Texas for her Nuclear
Radiology Technician License. She
retuned to San Antonio where she worked for 28 years
at the Methodist Metropolitan Hospital and the 15 years at the Audie
Murphy VA Hospital in their Nuclear Radiation Departments. After
43 (Yes, 43 Years!) years of service and lots of "on call" duty she
retired and now spends much of her free time traveling with the
Los Amigos Ski & Travel Club.
Over the past few years she has had trips to Portugal, Italy, Spain and
Scotland and credits her strength training allowing her more enjoyment
of the trips. She is a avid pet lover and favors Dobermans and
cats. We appreciate having Norine as a valued member of the Inside
Outside Family. |

Since it's inception, an important mission at Inside
Outside has been to make
a difference in our community. The best way we
have found to do this is to
make contributions to Non-Profit organizations
